The performance of an alloy steel product is much higher than that of a carbon steel one. Although they cost lesser than stainless steel grades, their corrosion resistance properties are much lower than stainless steels but higher than carbon steel pipes.

An Alloy Steel Pipe is used in applications which require moderate corrosion resistance properties with good durability and at an economical cost. To simply put it, alloy pipes are preferred in those areas where carbon steel pipes may fail. There are two classes of alloy steels - high alloys and low alloy steels. Pipes that constitute low alloy steels have an alloying content that ranges below 5%. Whereas the alloying content of a high alloy steel would range between 5% to about 50%. Similar to most alloys the working pressure ability of an Alloy Steel Seamless Pipe is about 20% higher than a welded pipe. So in applications that have a higher working pressure as a prerequisite, the use of a seamless pipe is justified. Though stronger than a welded pipe, the cost is much higher. Furthermore, the risk of intergranular corrosion at the heat affected weld zone is more in a welded product. The visible difference between an Alloy Steel Welded Pipe and a seamless product is the latitudinal seam along the length of the pipe. However, today, with the advancement in technology, the seam present on the Alloy Steel ERW Pipe could considerably be reduced via means of a surface treatment, such that it remains invisible to human eyes.

ASTM A335 P22 Seamless Pipe is also known as the 2 ¼ chrome pipes. The material is a carbon steel with added chromium, molybdenum and vanadium at some instances. The chromium content is responsible for the added high temperature strength in the ASME SA335 Grade P22 Alloy Steel Pipe SCH 40 and other schedules.

The material has high creep resistance and corrosion resistance. The molybdenum content provides the creep resistance and the pitting resistance to the pipes. The ASTM A335 P22 Pipe is applicable in high temperature services. The high temperature service ability comes from the composition. The composition of the ASTM A335 P22 Welded Pipe has carbon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, silicon, chromium and molybdenum in it.

The pipes also have 415MPa minimum tensile strength and 205MPa minimum yield strength. The pipes are suitable for pharmaceutical equipment, specialty chemicals, gas processing, petrochemicals, power generation, offshore oil drilling, pulp and paper industries, condensers, heat exchangers, sea water equipment and chemical equipment as well. The ASTM A335 Gr P22 ERW Pipe is produced through a procedure known as the electric resistance weld. The pipes are formed from sheets and strips of the same material and are welded from end to end to make the pipes. Please contact us to know more about the ASTM A335 P22 material, the pipe products and the prices.
